Senasa Incorporates the Rapid Lateral Flow Test in Milk as a Complementary Surveillance Method. The agency aims to expedite testing at dairy farms and optimize data entry in the official network of laboratories.


The National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) has taken a key step in strengthening the National Plan for the Control and Eradication of Bovine Brucellosis. Through Resolution No. 656/2026—published in the Official Gazette—the agency updated the landmark Resolution 438/2006 and incorporated the lateral flow immunochromatographic test in milk as a complementary epidemiological surveillance method.


This new tool, based on a rapid kit authorized by the General Directorate of Laboratories and Technical Control (DGLyCT), stands out for its high sensitivity and specificity. Its strategic application seeks to expedite response times, optimize early detection in dairy herds, and expand diagnostic operational capacity throughout the country.
Key points of the regulation:

  • Official Laboratory Network: All analyses must be performed in laboratories authorized by SENASA (National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service) and under official technical procedures.
  • Digital Data Entry and Integration: Results must be systematically recorded on official computer platforms to guarantee traceability and transparency in public health.
  • Rapid Serum Tests: Diagnostic blood tests remain reserved for the exclusive use of official SENASA personnel. Exceptions are made for specific epidemiological situations that justify their use by third parties, always with prior authorization.
    According to the health authority, this update aims to reduce operational times on dairy farms, consolidate the national health status, and offer more efficient tools to professionals in the sector for the effective control of the disease.
